Matt Mayernik is a gardener, herbalist, and plant medicine maker based in Northern New Jersey. He is the co-owner of Mayernik Kitchen, a modern-day herbal apothecary focused on herbal education, sustainable growing practices, and reconnecting people with the medicinal plants around them.

Matt’s passion for gardening began at a young age while caring for his family’s small backyard garden. Over the past 30+ years, he has dedicated himself to studying and cultivating medicinal herbs, developing deep hands-on knowledge of plant cultivation, seed saving, harvesting, and sustainable farming practices.

Today, Matt farms in Northern New Jersey where he grows more than 75 species of medicinal herbs each year. From starting seedlings in February to harvesting and seed collection throughout the seasons, he has created a thriving ecosystem that produces hundreds of pounds of herbs annually.

In addition to farming and medicine making, Matt is also an educator who teaches both in-person and online courses and leads a 10-month herb farm apprenticeship through Mayernik Kitchen, helping others learn the skills needed to grow, harvest, and work with medicinal plants in a meaningful and sustainable way.
