One of our favorite members of the new March Out of the Woods Apothecary Box is our own Organic Boo Boo Cream. Though most people reach for their tube of Neosporin when the roughest of ouchies hits, our cream is worlds better for one main reason: it is made from all organic ingredients. One of my biggest worries is not knowing what I’m putting in and on my body, and this extends much further than the food we eat. I have become more conscious about my foods and drinks, sure, but I have also spent a ton of time finding what’s right for me in terms of soap, moisturizers, and now, a remedy for common cuts and bruises.
Through my research, I found that products like the go-to Neosporin may not only be all-natural, but they may actually do more harm than good. Some of the nearly-impossible-to-pronounce ingredients play a huge role in our ability to naturally fight illness and disease. Our bodies are becoming so reliant on antibiotics, that we are losing our ability to fight infection on our own, and products like Neosporin are some of the top culprits in this ongoing battle. Matt and I have tried our best to follow a new rule in regards to ingredients: if we wouldn’t use the ingredient separately, on its own, then why use it when mixed in a commercial product?
Our organic boo boo cream is a great alternative. Rather than a medicine, it is a soothing treatment. You can lather this on cuts, burns, bruises, and even use on sore muscles and joint pain. The basis of our cream is coconut oil, which means the consistency can vary by the seasons (stiffer in the winter, softer in the summer). Coconut oil is gaining popularity in the skin-care world, and its positive effects are starting to become more widely known. It’s anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties are gaining a strong reputation as the go-to warrior to battle acne, rashes, infections, and more. See? Even your skin can remain all natural and be as healthy as ever!
