Calendula flowers are hues of bright yellow or orange with leaves of aromatic hints. They were anciently used as a coloring agent for fabric, cosmetics, and food. Anciently, they were used by the Greeks, Romans, and Indians because of their amazing medicinal benefits.

In the following centuries, calendula flowers developed a shining reputation in reducing fever, arthritis, muscular cramps, sore throat, menstrual cramps, and ulcers. But these are not its only qualities; calendula flowers also help with skin conditions, especially eczema, dermatitis, dryness, itching, and even scalp dandruff.

Get ready to add this summer bounty to your garden and your routine, because we are about to dive into its growing process! We have got a product recommendation for you too, so stay tuned.

How does Calendula grow?

Calendula officinalis is an easy-to-grow, low-maintenance plant. It isn’t much finicky about its soil and water conditions. It can thrive in any well-drained, poor to average soil, and few water showers.

Calendula seeds can be started both indoors and outdoors. It prefers to grow in warmer regions under full sun to light shade. The seeds should be planted after all the dangers of frost have vanished; before the last frost date in spring. The sown seeds germinate quickly within 5 to 15 days. With further exposure to favorable conditions, the plant steps into the bloom time in May and continues to do so till fall.

The vibrant calendula flowers are excellent markers to invite pollinating insects to the garden. They are usually grown near lavenders to achieve some color variation in the garden.

Note: For indoor plantation, calendula requires specific grow lights exposure for 6 to 8 weeks.
