In this immersive sensory workshop, we’ll slow down and experience herbs in a completely different way, not simply by learning what a plant does, but by learning how to truly see, touch, smell, taste, and experience it.
We’ll explore the idea that our senses are some of our greatest tools as herbalists. Through a series of guided sensory experiences, you’ll get to know a variety of fresh medicinal and culinary plants up close, noticing the details we often overlook - the shape and texture of a leaf, the aroma released when it’s gently bruised, the difference between fresh and prepared herbs, and the flavors that reveal a plant’s unique personality.
We’ll begin with sight, slowing down enough to really observe a plant. From there, we’ll move into touch and texture, explore the aromatic world of herbs through smell, and finally experience plants through taste, sampling fresh herbs alongside simple herbal preparations.
Along the way, we’ll talk about how herbalists use their senses to build relationships with plants, make observations, and deepen their understanding of the herbs they work with. You’ll also learn how to take this simple sensory practice outside the classroom and into your own garden, backyard, or local trail.
This isn't about how many plants you can identify or how much information you can memorize. It’s about slowing down enough to notice.
Come ready to get curious, engage your senses, and meet familiar plants in a whole new way.
