Herbs that can be used for Bruises

What are Bruises?

A bruise is a phenomenon that indicates skin or tissue injury that occurs when the blood capillaries rupture, resulting in leakage of blood from the small vessels. The leaked blood gets trapped under the skin, establishing a discolored mark that is tender to touch. Oftentimes, bruises or contusions are painful and inflamed, usually appearing on skin, muscles, and bones. They can last for about two weeks, starting off as a red mark that turns into a bluish-purple. When it reaches greenish-yellow, it is an indicator that the injury is near to almost being recovered. Generally, bruises do not require any medical attention but an unexplained bruising without pain and or injury needs to be addressed immediately to diagnose the underlying problem.

Symptoms of Bruises

  • Bluish-purple color beneath the skin (classic sign of bruise)
  • Discoloration of the injured area
  • Pain at the site of injury
  • Tenderness

Yarrow

Yarrow

Use Yarrow Tincture in water or tea up to 3 times a day to thin the blood and avoid excessive clotting that aids in dissipating the heavily stagnant bruises. Yarrow is a blessing of nature when it comes to improving blood circulation, normalizing blood pressure, and managing varicose veins.

Chamomile

Chamomile

Chamomile is mostly famous for its sleep-inducing and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects but it is miraculously effective in cuts, bumps, and bruises too. Use fresh or dried chamomile flower tea bags steeped in water then chill in the refrigerator. Apply it on the bruised area to taper the redness and inflammation.

Nettle

Nettle

Nettle (Urtica dioica) poses a conundrum when it comes to dealing with skin problems but it has managed to shun all the absurdities associated with it and outshines remarkably when used as an herbal infusion to heal red-burning bruises and treat minor cuts. Its anti-inflammatory attribute also comes in handy for gout, mild to moderate burns, eczema, and muscle and joint pain.
