Northern California Wine Country – Travel with The Mayernik’s

By Shannon, Posted in Travels

Northern California in March is perfection! Matt and I headed out there in mid-March for a nice little get away. And boy did we leave right in time. We ended up missing a snow storm that dumped 14 inches of snow while we were sipping wine in 76-degree weather. I am pretty sure there were many people not too thrilled with us when we posted pictures of sunshine and flip flops but we were having the time of our lives!

We first headed up to Sonoma County, particularly the Dry Creek Valley area. We are members of Bella Vineyards so of course we had to stop in there to have a tasting in the caves. We also LOVE Preston Winery, a bio-dynamic farm that makes amazing wine, along with fresh sour dough bread daily that you can enjoy while sitting out in the yard. Those were our top two spots we knew we had to visit. We of course, checked out many other vineyards in the area and none of them disappointed.

After our two days in Sonoma, we headed to Yountville, CA which is in the heart of Napa Valley where we met up with four of our friends. We were so grateful for the house we were able to stay in which was walking distance from breakfast spots, tasting rooms, restaurants and the very famous Bouchon Bakery. We tasted our way through Napa and had some pretty amazing meals. We’ve never traveled with friends before but it was great. We laughed A LOT, enjoyed everyone’s company, and drank some of the best wine in the world.

When Matt and I travel, we enjoy checking out all the local spots; whether it’s breweries, wineries, local groceries, food trucks, restaurants, or markets. We love to submerge ourselves in the environment we are in. We feel there is no other way to really get a sense of a place if you can’t enjoy all it has to offer.

Napa will forever hold a special place in our hearts (this was our 4th visit out there) and we are already looking forward to our next trip out west. We hope these images take you on a little tour of our few days we spent out in wine country.
