MKUntapped – Obercreek Brewing, Cousins Ale Works & Bad Seed Cider

Let’s take a ride up to New York State, the Hudson Valley to be exact. It was a rainy weekend but sometimes breweries in the rain can be fun because we can’t be out in the garden, so we might as well sit and enjoy locally brewed beer!

For anyone that has been following us, you know we harvest spring water in Blooming Grove, NY and then visit one of our favorite farms, Blooming Hill Farm. We enjoy a delicious breakfast with a farm fresh Bloody Mary, and then shop in their farm market.

After we harvested a few gallons of water, and filled our bellies with delicious food, we headed to our first brewery of the day!

Obercreek Brewing Company

Obercreek Brewing Company, located in Wappingers Falls, NY,  is run by three school teachers! How awesome is that! They are only open on Saturdays and have only been open for a few months! I think it was day 34 when we were there!

They were pouring 4 – 6 oz. pours that day and I must say, we LOVED them all. My favorite was the French Press and Matt’s favorite was Simple Math. The IPA’s were not overly hoppy and if you try the Cryptic Demands, I bet you will agree it was sweeter then bitter!

The brewery has a lot of outdoor seating, but because of the rain, we tasted in their very nice tasting room. The brewery is located on a working farm, so we knew the ingredients used were local and fresh, two of our favorite things!

Cousins Ale Works

After our wonderful tasting, we hopped back into the car, and drove about 2 miles to Cousins Ale Works, also located in Wappingers Falls, NY. This Revolutionary themed brewery is in the back of a strip mall, so if you take a drive out there, remember it’s not a standalone location. The tasting room was HUGE and they had a few corn hole games set up! We also watched the Royal Wedding …. my type of brewery.

Cousin Ale Works offers a tasting of 4 beers, but we were lucky enough to try all 5 that they had on tap that day! Matt and I both agreed that we enjoyed the Smoking Musket Stout. All the beers were pretty light in flavor and were easy drinking beers. The brewery also had Noshi’s Nosh Corner set up if you wanted some snacks! Perfect choices to go with a beer.

The gal pouring our beers recommended a few places for lunch, and we choose County Fare which was about 2-3 miles away, still conveniently located in Wappinger Falls. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a delicious lunch! We shared Tots with cheese and for our meals, I had pierogis and Matt had a veggie burger. I enjoyed the Orchard Wit from Bruery Terreux and Matt had Super Sessions #8 from Lawson’s Finest Liquids.

Once again, our bellies were filled and we were up for one more stop! We are new to ciders but I know anyone who is gluten free loves a good cider and I would 100% suggest trying out this cidery. Welcome to Bad Seed Cider Company, located in Highland, NY.

We walked into a two-story tasting room which was beautiful. We headed upstairs to taste some cider. We each did a flight of 4 ciders and we honestly loved them all. We did have a few favorites though, Dry Cider Ginger, Maple Bourbon Pecan and Black Raspberry Green Tea. We even took home 4 cans of cider which were poured for us, as we ordered. We brought home two Dry Cider Ginger & two Maple Bourbon Pecan. I am pretty sure we will be opening one this week to enjoy after a day of work!
